  • NAS to close Mendip House after ‘unacceptable’ CQC inspection…

    The National Autistic Society (NAS) has announced plans to close Mendip House, located in Somerset, in light of a recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection conducted in May this year which found a number of ‘unacceptable failings’.

    Currently the subject of an ongoing police investigation surrounding the welfare of six residents, the NAS announced the home’s closure on Monday (August 8), with the charity’s director, Jane Harris, stating that the home had ‘failed badly’ to ensure residents were safe, and the poor standards at Mendip House should have been picked up sooner.

    A second inspection, carried out in June by the CQC, rated Mendip House as ‘inadequate’ in all five of its inspection criteria: well-led, responsive, service safe, effective and caring. Furthermore,
