Staff from Hertfordshire homecare provider Abbots Care have taken on a charity triathlon to raise money for the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) and highlight the importance of specialist support for people living with spinal injuries.
Members of the provider’s Head Office team joined hundreds of participants at the Superhero Series Triathlon, an inclusive sporting event bringing together people of all abilities alongside their families, friends and supporters.
It marks the second consecutive year Abbots Care has participated in the event, with Managing Director Helen Sinden, Head of Business Development Ryan Killick, Intake Consultant Fola Salami and Community Facilitator Megan Murphy among those taking on the swimming, cycling and running challenges.
The team was also joined by Sinden’s dog and Abbots Care’s appropriately titled ‘Chief Barking Officer’, Betsy.
Funds are being raised for the Spinal Injuries Association, which works in partnership with Abbots Care as the provider develops its specialist spinal care services.
Operating across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Dorset, Abbots Care supports people living with spinal injuries and other complex health needs to remain safely and independently in their own homes. Its services are designed around individuals’ particular circumstances, with the aim of supporting greater choice, confidence and quality of life.
Ryan Killick said the Superhero Series provided an opportunity for colleagues to challenge themselves while supporting an organisation closely connected with the provider’s work.
“Supporting someone with a spinal injury often requires specialist knowledge, consistency and an understanding of the individual beyond their clinical needs,” he said.
“Our partnership with the Spinal Injuries Association helps us continue developing that expertise while ensuring that our clients’ lived experience remains at the heart of our approach.”
The initiative also demonstrates how partnerships between care providers and specialist charities can extend beyond fundraising, helping organisations draw upon lived experience and sector expertise when developing services.
Abbots Care is continuing its fundraising for the Spinal Injuries Association following the event and has thanked colleagues, participants and supporters who contributed to the campaign.
