In the latest instalment of our care industry executive interview series we spoke to William Langston, Managing Director & Founder of WLEnvironmental and a Registered Environmental Health Officer, about the importance of managing noise levels in the care home setting, creating noise management strategies, the process of dealing with any complaints that do arise and legislation compliance…
Tell us about you and your services
We are WLEnvironmental.co.uk, we provide deal with every aspect of noise complaints for businesses in the care sector, with homes for adults with additional needs and children’s homes being our main focus.
Why is it important that noise complaints are dealt with properly?
Noise complaints are very stressful for staff to deal with. It can quickly become the reason a staff member doesn’t want to come to work, as they’re receiving abuse from neighbours around the home. This includes both Verbal and physical abuse.
Noise complaints can also lead to quite significant legal action. The Local authority has the ability to prosecute a care home owner and close the care home as a result of a Statutory Noise Nuisance.
How can a care home prevent legal action due to noise complaints?
It’s important that the care home has a noise management plan available for the local Council to view, and the home operator must be able to demonstrate they have taken every reasonable step to stop or reduce the impact of noise as a result of their operations. It’s also very important that the care home engages with the community and the local Council as much as possible.
How would WLEnvironmental help the care home operator deal with the noise complaints?
We will manage every aspect of the noise complaint, from the second it comes in, to the second a resolution is reached with the goal of cutting the stress upon the care home operator and their staff.
This will include:
- Being the sole contact point for the Complainants and the Council
- Keeping detailed logs of every communication with the Complainants and the Council
- Ensuring the care home operator can evidence every step they have taken to reduce the noise problems
- Reducing conflict between the neighbours and the care home
- Providing relevant and actionable advice
And much more…
What benefits can the Care home operator expect to receive for working with you?
We have our 18 benefits laid out on our website home page, but the three that stand out most to me are cutting the stress to the operator and their staff, improving staff retention as a result and guaranteeing 100% legislation compliance for noise complaints.
