Implementation of CareShield in January 2019

Sussex Healthcare (SHC) comprises over 16 care homes, offering a range of services including specialist care for older people, dementia care and care for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

The team at Sussex Healthcare took the decision in October 2018 to move to using the CareShield Myrus system for a number of workforce development solutions, including learning and training.

We spoke to key members of the team about the implementation process and early impressions of the Myrus system.

Karen Francis, Training Administrator at SHC, gave us really important feedback as the person who uses the system most in order to drive engagement and use. Karen said:

“The system is really easy to use. Reporting is all in one place and my job is made so much easier by having a ‘one stop shop’ for the training calendar, face to face training bookings and the certificates. I am so pleased to be using the CareShield Myrus system – it’s making my job a lot easier, every day!”

Noorin Shivji, Training Manager at SHC said: “From the start of our implementation journey, we received friendly, helpful service from the Support team at CareShield. There is plenty of support available through the telephone-based help team and then the support online had everything our users needed to make the transition a smooth one.

“What’s pleasing is that the system is so easy to use that we’ve had a lot of feedback showing that our learners are engaged and most likely to return to their training regularly.

“What we’ve found is that the system is driving culture change here at Sussex Healthcare. We know it will take some time for the changes to become fully embedded, but after just a few weeks, we are seeing it make a difference to our staff engagement with their training and this is already driving improvements in our compliance training.”

Jacqui Franklyn, Academy Lead at SHC, added: “Initially we noted some reticence from our managers who were concerned about changing to a new system. However, that has quickly changed to positivity because the system is easy to use and gives the manager a full range of information at the press of a button.

“The dashboard style information gives our managers an instant view on the compliance levels in their particular home, data that is ‘real time’ rather than a report on the past. For those of us at senior levels, we too have information at our fingertips and we’re able to see the picture of compliance across the whole of our area of responsibility. This is powerful data and enables us to continually monitor our staff moving from compliance to competence.”
